My point is, while I have a very [redacted] opinion of Italy, I’m objective enough to say that it has some allure. Plus, I’m curious to see how others interpret it.

J.P. O’Connell does a pleasant job in that department. The descriptions and the mannerisms are accurate and historically on-point.

this was 420 pages of nothing. i was so bored and none of the stakes felt real??? and the way the story progressed was so dull. there were sooooo many characters and constant pov switches so i never grew attached to any of the characters and genuinely didn’t care about what happened to any of them. the way things wrapped up too felt ridiculous and i started skimming sections that i found to be the most boring just so i could be done faster.

Elegant and sexy
Well-developed, complex, interesting characters
Peeks into each character's thoughts evoked strong reactions! Like gagging at Cecil's pompous, misogynistic inner monologue
Alice is a FROSTY, sneaky bitch!!

Liked the TV show so read the book to get into it more, totally worth it just for it being briefly mentioned Nish reads HG Wells. (Best character and author)
Easy read, fun, all the characters are fleshed out, the language is interesting. Totally recommend if you like character driven books.
