The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy - Rating: 5/5โญ๏ธ
Cassie Soul used to grow up summer vacationing in Avalon Bay. That is until her parents got divorced, forcing her to move to Boston with her mother, hardly coming back to visit her father. But as her grandmother sells the family boardwalk hotel, Cassie spends her first night back in Avalon Bay looking for a summer fling only to stumble upon the finest candidate, Tate Bartlet, being broken up with by his situationship. Sparking a series of run-ins as Cassie and Tate canโt seem to escape each other this summer. Tension heating up more and more even as Tate tries to friend zone Cassie in hopes of saving her feelings.
LIKES:
๐๐พ I love when characters from previous books make cameos. It was more integrative in the second book being that they were brothers, but it was also refreshing to have it still make a play in a different way in this one. I also love that the plot lines are kind of rolling on in the books especially surrounding The Beacon.
๐๐พ I am a an autumn/winter person at my core, but something about these books gets me all geeked up to sit outside in the sun and welcome the summer time. Mostly because theyโre easy to read within the perfect setting.
๐๐พ The lightheartedness wrapped up in the lure of summer flings balanced well with the sincerity and depth of the relationships and plotline that it made for the most entertaining read out of the standalone series.
๐๐พ Cassie and Tate were really cute. They had an instant chemistry that oozed their sweetness off of the pages. Refreshingly not having a grumpy/sunshine atmosphere but just two people dealing with their own emotional traumas and lives in positive ways. It was really refreshing.
๐๐พ I was genuinely surprised by the little third act twist. Tearing up and everything. I really believed that that would be ending for them and I was kind of satisfied and thought it made perfect sense as a daughter of a cheater (although he left us for his mistress).
๐๐พ All of the different relationship dynamics. Between Cassie having her grandma, finally cutting off ties to her mom while being a people pleaser (because girl same), and figuring out her dynamic with his father and stepmother. And then on Yates end having a great relationship with his parents blowing up and then navigating how to repair it. But also their dynamic together. I loved seeing the tenderness they had for each other and the support they extended in helping each other become comfortable with their lives.I could see myself in each one.
DISLIKES:
๐๐พ I honestly canโt even think of one right now. I loved this book.
Overall, Iโm honestly sad to leave Avalon Bay behind. All three books in this series have been 5 stars for me with this one being my favorite, Good Girl Complex (1st book) coming in second place, and Bad Girl Reputation (2nd book) bringing up the rear. Itโs the best summer time vibe books that have good writing, easily bingeable, perfect pallet cleansers, and just hit every single time. I honestly miss when romance books held onto their true fashion and made me connect with the characters and plot line equally.

It made me cry, laugh out loud, and overall, feel.
Between 3-4 stars. Overall it was a cute love story. I gave it 4 stars because this book is help normalizing what it is like having a narcissistic mother. Not everyone has a Gilmore Girls relationship with their mother.
