It's been awhile since I've read a Nora Roberts book and this one lived up to what I expect from her writting. A little romance, some mystery and family of some sort. In this book there was the big Italian family and then the family that comes with having good friends. It all played a part in the story that was a little grittier then what I have been used to from her stand alone books in the past. Still it was a great read that made me think about how children can be damaged by events in their lives or use those events to push them to become better people.

Slow in the beginning… it was fine. A lot of the detective work felt repetitive

Sadly have had the impression for years that Nora Roberts books isn't forme for years. But I was gifted this book and I've been meaning to read more by her as I was proven wrong a few months ago. 3.5 stars. The story and plot was an entertaining read and I enjoyed my reading experience with it. But wasn't a new favorite but it did made me want to read more by her. I don't think I ever seen an author with such big back catalog before so I'm sure I'll find a few gems

The first time that I read this book, I remember thinking that it was okay but nothing special. Strangely, I think I like the book more on my re-read than the first time around! I don't know if I was in a different frame of mind or a different place in my life, but I would actually change my rating on this book from a 3 to a 4, easily.

The story was definitely character-driven, with a slow build-up to the action while we watched Reena and Bo establish themselves as people. The secondary characters (particularly the various members of the family) didn't overtake the focus but were also given personalities and were more than just window-dressing. The bad guy was compelling, I was invested in the mystery/suspense of it all, and the story had a HEA. What more could a person ask for in a Nora Roberts novel?!

I figured out who did it within the first chapter. Normally she is really good at including red herrings, but this one was a what you see is what you get kind of book.
