This book was recommended to me via Goodreads after my interest in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Goodreads knew I would love it and they were correct. Into the Wilderness is a solid historical romance with intriguing plot development and well drawn out characters. I sometimes struggle with historical romance novels because they don’t have enough plot to mingle alongside all the romance. That was not the case with this read. I highly recommend this one to any Outlander fan or early Americanist. A very enjoyable read!

I just can't finish it! There is so much "romance novel" garbage in here that I just can't focus on the story line. The first 20 pages or so display the typical romance novel tricks: the heroine with hair so thick and luxurious that it seems to have a mind of its own and is always popping out of its pins; the heroine repeatedly trips and falls into the arms of the hero; the heroine accidentally comes upon the hero who is stripped to the waist. Elizabeth is continually getting into ridiculous situations trying to prove that she is independent (but she really isn't) and the hero is a contradiction himself. I stuck with it to page 404 but only because I bought the thing and wanted to get my money's worth. It's 758 pages long! Maybe I'll get back to it some day. It sounded good and has a pretty cover.
Can’t wait to continue this series! The Clare and Jamie Frasier cameo was such a fun surprise!

I am very thankful to be done with this book. I was so incredibly bored. I found this book to be slow and meandering. Frequently, when learning of a new plot development, I would think to myself, “What’s the point of this? Is there going to be a payoff for this?” Frequently, there wouldn’t be a payoff. There were whole scene that just existed to waste more pages and time.
This book was not for me.

Alright. I give up. This book is just too freaking long and slow moving. I cannot persist.
Did not finish. I had heard good reviews, but the pacing was too slow and the plot was just not interesting enough for me. The characters were not compelling and I did not like the writing style.
