Mystery, conspiracy, strange medical issues, secret familiar and orders, tons of action and bloody violence. James Rollins is a great action mystery writer. This was a great mystery book. Not mind blowing but certainly enthralling and entertaining. Would 100 percent read his other books but I'm not rushing out my door to get every single one.

Everyone do me a favour and read this book!! James Rollins never ceases to amaze and draw me into his books. One of the best aspects is incorporating real facts and providing info about it all. I'm very much looking forward to more books!

I feel a bit mean only giving this 3*. It's a good novel, but not the best in the series. At the same time, I recognize that some of my dissatisfaction may very well come from how I haven't been able to settle in to it until the past three days. In the wider context of the series, this felt like both filler and a not entirely satisfying conclusion (of sorts) to the Guild storyline. Do I recommend it? Absolutely. Fans of the series will enjoy it. I'm certainly going to finish catching up, too.

Next up? Eye of God! But maybe in a week or two, while I read some other stuff I've had on the back-burner. (A bibliophile's shelves never truly shrink...)

I really enjoyed this book. I love when Painter is more involved. The only flaw for me? More Monk!!! Kat and Monk are my favorite characters. The addition of Tucker and Kane were great; I hope we see more of them. It was nice to see Jack again, if only briefly. I really love Rollins' stand alone adventures. The sigma books are not my favorite James Rollins' books, but this one was great with some nice twists.

As far as Sigma novels go this was really good (though I would not give it the title of "the best"). What I love about this book is that the author is integrating characters from his standalone novels into the Sigma Universe creating a "Marvel" type dimension so to speak. Would be great to see bigger expansions on these lines and hopefully the next sigma novel comes soon. Actually at this point I'll pretty much read anything Mr. Rollins pens.

Another excellent read from Rollins! James Rollins does such a great job of mixing science and history into his fictional stories. He has great characters that we follow through the series and become invested in, as well as lots of fast-paced action.

Painter and his team are back to try and save a kidnapped pregnant woman, find the leader of The Guild, and save some of their own from torture and death. We are also introduced to two new characters, Tucker and Kane. The action is non-stop and the story is intriguing with lots of great layers. This one focusses mainly on genetics, immortality, and robotics. An entertaining read.

This one was tough to get through due to the nature and volume of violence and outright abuse against women.

Warning, if you haven't read the book yet, it is graphic.

I feel like this story could have been told in a way that wasn't so abusive and violent and spent less time portraying women as vaginas waiting to be impregnated to create a super human and more time on why women are abducted and abused to act as surrogates. Further to that, Rollins fails his core female characters, again. When Kat tells Amy that Amy's sister is "just a husk, a shell" I was stunned. The notion that only Gray or abused child soldiers can stir any emotion in Seichan is ludacris. Rollins needs to wake up and understand that strong, powerful women aren't devoid of emotion and his characters don't need to be either. And while I understand the archetype that is Kowalski, this character is so grating that I cringe anytime he opens his mouth.

As a whole, I have enjoyed the Sigma Force series (the mix of science and history, fact and fiction is first rate, and in this book, the plot twist involving Seichan) but I feel like Rollins is straying dangerously close to a very misogynistic environment and characters that I just don't want to spend any time with.
