2 ⭐ book with an admittedly 4 ⭐ ending, mostly just want my thing, but I had trouble getting through the original Three Men in a Boat as well.
A slow start, but once Ned makes it to Muchings End things get entertaining. I would've given it three but by the end it had sucked me in, and all the threads were convincingly wrapped up. I figured out who Mr C was a lot earlier than I was meant to, I think, but it didn't take away from the story.
The peculiar conversion of Jerome K Jerome, time travel and Agatha Christie. Loved it
I thoroughly enjoyed this fun book! I recently read "three men in a boat", which made me adore the comedy of this book even more. I recommend this book to everyone and look forward to reading it again. :)
Very good
A great tale well told. It's a lot lighter than Doomsday book but not as good imo. It made me laugh more than once, It's clever and witty. Some fantastic characters too.

This is a good humoured and cheerful book that takes in the Whig and Marxist views of history, Victorian romances, Jerome K Jerome, spiritualism, thirties detective novels and characters who seem to communicate in quotations or through references to past events. All very appropriate in a novel about time travel.
Such a fun book. As a working historian, the concept of time traveling historians is such a fun fantasy to lose yourself in. All the characters in the Victorian Era are delightful and kooky, and the subplot about the cats brought a smile to my face. I absolutely breezed through this despite its length.

Generally I did like this, although I'll be so for real, the ending did not need to take like four hours. Also I was so pleased with myself for figuring out what I thought was the main mystery, I forgot about the bishop's bird stump entirely.
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Animal death
The blurb on the cover describes this as “hilarious.” I can’t quite agree with that, although it is sometimes very funny. But it doesn’t need to be hilarious; it’s charming and fun throughout.
