I love Jon Gordon's writting style. it always give me inspiration and the tools to go out and implement what the story talked about. the timing to get on this book was evident as I finished it this evening. I am excited to implement it with my team!

This was a book we had to read for work at school. It was not for me. I found the parable format it was written in to be corny and embarrassing.

George reads as a 1950s white man-child who:
—Doesn’t understand a basic idiom.
>Example: “George wondered what Joy meant when she said he had no heart. ‘What do you mean I have no heart?’ George questioned as he pointed to himself. ‘It’s right here. It’s not missing.’”
—Responds like a moody middle school student when a stranger is cheerful to him.
>Example: “Does this woman ever stop smiling? Doesn’t she know it’s Monday? Who smiles on Monday?”

Then there’s Joy, the bus driver who serves as George’s Black magical guide to finding happiness in his life again, listening to all of his problems patiently. Jon Gordon’s dialogue for Joy gave me the most intense cringe.
Example: “Weeelllll look aheeeeeeerr. Look who we have here today. How you doing, Sugar? I didn’t think i would see you again.”

The titles of the chapters followed no particular pattern; sometimes there were chapter titles named after rules (Lead with Heart), then other chapters about George at work (The Next Day).

Several of the rules were obvious: “Enthusiasm attracts more passengers and energizes them during the ride.” “Have fun and enjoy the ride.”

This would have done better as a five page article that included the rules and writing prompts around them. Not a fan.

Read it for work. Great message; a little corny

Over all message is great 👍

Decent analogies, and relatable. Nothing profound or new, but a good refresher on how to keep positive energy going on your projects. Quick read.

I'm not normally one to read self-help books. I was given this book by members of my real estate team and I was pleasantly surprised by it. While it does have a layer of cheesiness that can feel a tad overbearing at times, the overall message is a solid one. It's one I think you can take something away from, a way to look at negative situations in a different light.

The book is a quick read. I found myself burning through most of it in one sitting. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone going through a tough moment in their life.
