Really enjoyed this book.
Not at all what I expected to read from the Title. Its not the story itelf that I like but the way that it challenges the Catholic Church. It takes a risk of being judged by many and yet its greatly written.

Cañón superó mis expectativas, joyita, me enamoré de Robert Langdon (que 0 es Tom Hanks)

Just as good as the first time around

description

“History is always written by the winners. When two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated, and the winner writes the history books-books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe. As Napoleon once said, 'What is history, but a fable agreed upon?”

Since I was little, I've had this tendency of liking and wanting anything - be it a dress, a boy, or in this case a book, that is deemed inappropriate for me by my mother or anyone. Maybe my mother's "strictness" was the reason why I love reading banned books.

I was 13 when I started reading pocket-sized Tagalog romance novels with a total of 128 pages. My mom found out that I've been reading them for months. She didn't talk to me or lectured me about the contents of romance books that I may read, instead, she completely went bat shit crazy on me. She banned those pocketbooks in our house and told me I was too young to read them, that it'll only distract me from my studies or that I might do things (like having sex and be pregnant at 13) I am not supposed to do just because I read it in a romance book.

But despite them being 'outlawed' in our house I still found a way to sneak them inside my room. I always get caught cause my mom's sneaky like that but, hey, a girl got to do what a girl got to do. It kind of became a silent war between my mom and me, I'm the 'smuggler' and she's the 'cop' who keeps on confiscating my books. I keep on stacking books behind my clothes until she got tired of confiscating them and just left me to it.

I was 16 when the movie of The Da Vinci Code came out and made headlines. I wanted to read the book because I was intrigued by all the fuss but it was banned. I went to the school library and asked for a copy but I was denied due to my age. The firm refusal of my school librarian didn't deter me, being the little rebel that I am, I asked a friend who's already 18 to borrow it for me. My friend and I even sneaked inside a movie house to watch the movie.

It was all worth it because since then, it has become one of my favorites to re-read book. It is truly a page-turner. The thrill and adventure it gave me are enough to engross me into reading it dutifully once I started it.

I don't know if I'm just dumb or I just really tend to like/love things most people tend to hate on. And Dan Brown has a lot of those - haters.

But, in my book, he is magnificent. I like almost all the books under his name. I tend to focus more on how "readable" and how "fascinating" a book is than on how great his/her writing style and other abilities a writer should have.

That's why I tend to refer to myself as a blogger and not as a book reviewer or a book critic. I am just a simple girl, who loves reading and talking about books.

I have been re-reading this book for 12 years now and I'm still not bored by it. I still feel the anticipation and tension. It still keeps me at the edge of my seat.
