Only after returning home from my trip to NZ, where I bought this book, did I realise this collection was edited by a white man... As such, I found that the some of the tales told were mirrored with those told in greek mythology, which is annoying. I did like the stories about the lake/giants creation in the south island and the one about the kuumara, I felt like those were more authentic to maori mythology. This will probably serve as a good starting point to ground some of the names of gods, when reading other books, but it wasn't great itself
