Incredibly powerful follow up to My Heart is a Chainsaw. Ups the slashery nature, ups the action, and ups the body count. The escalation of tensions and blend of horror genres is impeccable, and Stephen Graham Jones continues to bring a powerfully unique tone to the page.

Makes me terribly excited for the third and final story.

I was so excited for this book because I loved the first one and it let me down. It was a confusing pile of random events peppered with boring characters and plotlines that didn't matter. Most of the almost 600 pages was spent with characters just going back and forth with pointless movie trivia and quotes. The ending was dumb as hell and the entire book felt like a waste of time. I'm so disappointed.

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I have to 100% recommend this audiobook of Don't Fear the Reaper. I'm not sure if it's that this was a sequel or the audio, but I fell in love with this one. Since it's a sequel, there's a lot of the legwork and foundation in My Heart is a Chainsaw. I knew there would be some sort of Horror 101. And I knew what happened in the first since I immediately jumped in. But Don't Fear the Reaper just got me. It examines what happens after the ending. The credit scene. And how what happens impacts the community. How it creates another layer of trauma and superstition.
