I really can't believe I spent hours of my life on this book, only to get to the end and think what the hell? Really!

Okay it was well written to the degree that I don't think I liked any of the characters in this book other than Go, and their cat.

Can't really say much more without major spoilers and I've ready wasted enough time on this. So I shall leave it here.

I've seen the movie a few times and I really liked it, so of course I had to read the book. I always like to give the book a go to see what they do differently. There were little changes here and there but I understand they changed them in the movie to keep up the fast pace. On a recent re-watch I noticed that Gillian Flynn wrote the screenplay, so that's why it's very similar.

I had so many questions that I wanted answered after seeing the movie and I hoped the book would answer those questions, but it didn't. But after reading the book it gave me a better understanding of Nick and Amy, in the movie I felt sorry for Nick but after reading the book I think they deserve each other. Even though I was left wondering about things in the movie, I felt the book gave me a bit of closure to most things.

If you haven't read this or seen the movie, I'm warning you to be prepared for some f#*ked up stuff and there are no redeemable qualities about the characters but it's all worth it if you want to read something completely different.

I loved aspects of this book. It is undeniably well-written. I loved the bit in defense of putting on the "cool girl" act and I loved the bit in attack of guys who fall for it. Unfortunately, the characters, while horrible, are relatable. This means, by the end of the book, I questioned whether I might be capable of behaving like them, and it just left me feeling exhausted. I felt no need to see the movie after reading the book.

An engrossing, well-crafted thriller from beginning to end and a fascinating character study of two terrible people who unfortunately happen to be married to one other. I know the two narrators were meant to be unlikable, but they were so unlikable even just in personality, before you learned about anything detestable they may or may not have done, that I grew tired very of them. If you like thrillers, especially domestic thrillers (e.g. "a spouse thinks they are going crazy" books like The Girl on the Train, The Woman in the Window), this is a genre gem, but don't expect to like anyone in it- at most, you'll love to hate them.

HOLY COW.

Ok. I'm thoroughly amazed at this novel.

I can't wait to read the rest of what Gillian Flynn has written.
