I have been wanting a “summerween” feeling book and this was exactly it. Slight coming of age, slight paranormal, slight adult problems. I loved this. I enjoyed our main character bouncing back and forth between talking about his adult life and telling this main story from his youth. I did cringe at the direct and detailed mentions about brains, as our MC is a brain surgeon and mentions it a few times. Kind of horrific to read, luckily it’s not the main focus. This book made me feel young again though and gave me a yearning for spooky season.
