It's great to hear David reading another one of Cressida Cowell's books. If you watched the BBC "Merlin" series and you're looking for something that captures a bit of that spirit than I think you'll enjoy listening to the audio book or reading the physical copy yourself.

“Once there was Magic…” Wizards, warriors, sprites, witches, giants and lots more.
David Tennant's narration adds a delightful touch to this already fun story, complete with musical interludes and sound effects. The magical world and its creatures are vividly described, making it a joy to explore. While some details may be overlooked, the lighthearted adventure keeps the reader engaged. The Spelling Book adds an extra layer of enchantment to the narrative, showcasing Cowell's imaginative storytelling prowess. Can't wait to dive into the sequels!

I must admit that I really tried to read this, but I couldn’t finish it. The back of the book caught my interest, but the writer couldn’t hold my interest. The book seemed to drag on and seemed slow.

I don't know if this book was bad so much as really just not for me. I didn't like the illustrations (mostly the style) and the story itself was flat. It had a Roald Dahl vibe with none of the charm. The story itself was meandering, with the dialogue choices too stylistic for my taste. Xar was unlikeable, not a lovable idiot like the rest of the characters seemed to take him for - none of the other characters were in the least lovable.

I do not recommend this book.

An incredibly interesting and well written story. David Tennant had a wonderful reading of this book. The production to support this reading was well done and not over-the-top. I absolutely loved every minute of this audiobook and I can't wait to hear the rest!
