Not my type of book! I appreciate that this novel has been written in a different time, with a bit of an “ancient” style, and an audience with dramatically different tastes in mind. However, I thought much of what happened in the story was way too convenient for the MC, to the point that I found myself rolling my eyes every 10 or so pages.
Our local theater group just put on a spoof of this inspired by Hitchcock. It was quite remarkable and I was interested in learning what was about!
Buchan says in a dedication that his intention in writing this story is to create his own 'dime novel' where "incidents defy the probabilities, and march just inside the borders of the possible." Unfortunately, he takes it too far. It also has the shortest act 3 I remember ever reading. On balance I think Hitchcock made a better story.

Hannay is clever, and seems a master of disguise.
And in the end he got his man.
I would probably listen to more of these if Audible presented them to me free?

Written over a hundred years ago, this feels briskly contemporary. Irresistible for spy-novel fans.
