This is a story that really didn't inspire me. The beginning is interesting, the ending is interesting. The middle, however, involves the main character running around fields and finding lots of uncommonly helpful strangers.
Not a classic and I will not be recommending it.

How can a book so small be so laborious to read?

Listened to this on the drive home from Seattle today. Not at all what I expected...I knew there was an Alfred Hitchcock movie so I guess I thought it would be more suspenseful than it was. Some of the plot was a little hard to follow and I'm not sure it really stands the test of time, however, the fact that is was written in 1915 was pretty impressive! I'd guess it was pretty groundbreaking in its time. Also, there was a lot of very clever phrasing that was entertaining...and my 15 year old loved it! 2.5 stars.

a fun little story. I loved the mystery and chasing and all the fun.

adventurous medium-paced

I read a number of the Hannity series quite a few years ago and, although they are fun and readable, they bear the stigma of blatant unashamed disgusting racism and antisemitism of the author’s era, so often found in British writing of that day. But then so does Agatha Christie.

Quick, light read, though a bit dated.

Fun novel - a classic of the spy genre, with the usual dangerous escapades and death-defying heroics for the love of Britain.

interesting because it basically kickstarted a genre, but people have done that genre better since
