Loved it! Started off on such an interesting story, and then it got better especially after 30% mark.
I enjoyed the shift from literary slide-of-life to speculative mystery, and the philosophical, religious, and social critique elements. I appreciated that not every character in the multiple narratives we got to know got a happy ending, it felt realistic. The book showed "normal" people dealing with something absolutely surreal.
I also found the ending throught-provoking, though I see why some people may not be satisfied with it.

it's a book. the stories of various people dealing with their doppelgangers were interesting but as a whole the concept seems underutilized. the hypercompetence of deux ex US government agencies seemed too Hollywood and almost farcical at times, but maybe that's just a result of reading it in the year 2025. also the prominence of the "simulation theory" cheapened the philosophical ambitions of the whole thing, but that's just a very personal bias

I was excited by the premise of this book, but disappointed by the execution.
The tagline of ‘If there are two of you, and just one life… who gets to live it?’ feels misleading if I’m honest, as the majority of the book focuses on what *has* happened rather than the future of the doppelgängers. The amount of time spent on the ‘after’ is small, and the resolution felt lazy to me.
The book also had a very masculine style/perspective, which started to grate on me over time. The majority of POV characters are male, and the few female characters felt more like the idea of women than actual women. As I read this in English, I don’t know whether this is the same in the original, or a choice by the narrator.
It was a quick read, which is good as I think I’d have DNF’d otherwise. Not a book I’d bother to read again.
