This series is worth the hype. This was SO good. Crown of Midnight was my favorite but this book took that spot. I felt all the emotions. A lot of new characters and world building and such, but it wasn’t hard to follow, in my opinion. All the stars.

Wait. This was actually.. decent? I'm confused.

Several points made the read more enjoyable than the last installment, but most noticeable for me was the reduced plot convenience. Reduced, not gone. Those moments are still there, and as ridiculous as ever, but because you didn't stumble across them every other page it felt like a genuine improvement. (Damn, the bar is low.) You could even talk yourself into ignoring them.

As always, I recommend not thinking too hard anyway, or you'll spiral straight into a MAKE IT MAKE SENSE pit.

On top of that, a borader cast of interesting characters (less Chaol!) and some engaging character development for Celeana made this an overall fun read.

It lost me a bit toward the end when things go a litte over-the-top and overly dramatic again, but I'm pleasantly surprised all thing considered. For once, I didn't feel like I was torturing myself by finishing it.

Goodreads just crashed after I submitted my very lengthy review on this book. Annoyed and can't be bothered to write another one.

TDLR Calaena/Aelin develops and shifts(ha!) a lot in this story, other characters feel lackluster/too similar.
Plot: Gets very wild and overwhelming, especially in the second half, captivating readers to keep on reading through the (seemingly) endless challenges Calaena faces. An equilibrium of 'good' and 'bad' outcomes balance the stakes on the tipping edge.
Setting: We definitely get to see a lot of Erilea in this book. Very detailed background and lore.
Writing: Action scenes are gripping and thrilling. Some of the suffering might be too much for some, but I enjoyed it(in the context of reading). Ending is beautifully crafted.

Great read, would recommend, although the first two books(esp. Throne of Glass) felt like a slog to read, this one is well-crafted and serves as a great sequel to continue Aelin's story.
