Well written, well translated, depressing, artistic. I found the lack of empathy the main character excited annoying. He was so wrapped up in his own life (honestly as we’re all the other characters). Defiantly sad and summery.

I love a tortured character.

Leo is drifting in life. He doesn't have any goals and he doesn't care either. Other than drinking and hanging out with friends who have more successful lives than he does, he reads and lets life pass him by. He has complicated relationships with both a girl he finally realises he loves and the cruel but sweet Rome.

Really beautiful prose - I just think I struggled to understand the point of this book.

oh... oh

i have died! the ending had me staring into space like "what now?" and honestly i was going to open the book back up and read it front to back again. it was quite nice, leo is a *very* interesting character to read from
