Seriously twisted book. Take Stephen King's quote to heart; no doubt one of the more scary and sickening books I've read in a long time. I found I couldn't eat my lunch while reading this book- it's that messed up. And I love the horror genre, books and film. The viciousness of some of the characters reminded me of Filth by Irvine Welsh, and definitely has a Lord of the Flies aspect to it. Yes, parts are revolting but I couldn't put it down and I have to admit it was excellent writing. WARNING: animal cruelty and extreme gore.
Now that I think of it, The Troop was more like a teenage horror movie.
Basically I sat there the entire time going like, “Guys don’t do it!” And what would they do? Exactly what I told them NOT to do. This movie is like that classic horror movie you watch where you know how things are gonna go down and if you were in the book, you would’ve survived.
I was told that I would puke my food out after reading this book. But really, it’s not that gory. If you can handle gory stuff, then this book should be good for you. Otherwise you might wanna skip this one because it does pretty deep into the gore and gets really descriptive, so be aware of that!

Frighteningly good. Horrifyingly gross in some parts. Nicely overlaid, good weave to the timeline and points of view.
Disturbing. Upsetting. Grotesque. And overall a pretty compelling story. I saw someone recommend this online along with some other horror books, and I don't really read horror so I thought I would give it a chance. Turns out I don't really need to read horror! I think I like a psychological thriller better than a psychological horror novel, that being said, I like the way the story was constructed. It was far far far too graphic for me to ever want to read again and it made my skin crawl and my stomach turn.

This book hits the ground running and doesn't let up. The concept and the real possibility of events such as this occuring make this book terrifying.
If I wasn't reading this in the midst of my work week I would have finished it in one sitting.
This is my first novel by Nick Cutter and it did not disappoint. Engaging, believable, good depth of character....everything you want in a classic style horror read!!

Was a reasonably quick read, given as a christmas gift. Likely wouldn't have picked it out for myself. Was definitely shocking but at times the violence and body horror felt meandering and grotesque for the sake of shock value. It could be tense but I found it more gross than frightening.
