Ok, this book is technically a 5 star read, but I’ll never touch it with a 10 foot pole again. It’s incredibly descriptive and well-written as a compelling plot, but the gore and grossness was too much for me. Nick Cutter definitely hit is mark on this

It feels weird to say that I enjoyed this book. I had a lot of things that I did not enjoy. And I had been warned that there is some animal cruelty. I just skipped over those chapters completely. So I might’ve lost some context to a few things.

All in all, this is a horrifying book. I would say probably the gold standard for body horror. That being said, I wouldn’t reread it. And I would tell you that if you are going to read it I hope you have a strong stomach.

I have always enjoyed books that are based around Lord of the flies. So for that, I did enjoy this aspect of the book. I think that’s also what kept me reading more because sometimes it was very bleak and I was not sure how it was gonna get OK .

If you’re looking for a book that will grow you out. This is one of them. I would say, though that it is well written enough that it’s not just Gore for Gore sake . It does enhance the story. But keep in mind. I did skip over any of the animal cruelty parts as soon as it kind of started just skip that whole chapter.
