I loved reading a romance with Indian rep, but I found the characterization/chemistry to be lacking. I almost felt like Daisy/Liam were caricatures: nerdy Marvel girl vs. “bad boy” with a heart of gold. Additionally, I felt that the diction was extremely repetitive. (i.e. a “maelstrom of emotions” was used three times) Not the best romance I’ve ever read, but not the worst.

DNF — way too many mentions of superhero-themed lingerie for my taste

This was another meh read for me. There was a lot going on in this book - I was listening to the audiobook, and as I listened, if I zoned out for just a minute I felt like I was missing something. The whole book starts off with this fake engagement, but then mostly focusing on a dating plan and fake dates. It just felt a little... forced? Like it wanted to be about fake dating but incorporated this fake engagement into the mix? Also the reasoning for the fake engagement also felt forced... it's some stipulation for Liam so that a family business remains in his family but honestly he didn't give me the impression that he was super invested in the family business other than wanting to keep it in the family. I don't know there were several bits that just never sat right while I was reading. There were some nice moments about family support and there was definitely chemistry between the main characters but overall, it was just an average read.

I liked parts of this but it felt like there were edits made but the overall novel wasn't re-read. There were moments of continuity issues (in my opinion) which really brought me out of the narrative. It was fun enough, with the fake dating trope, but overall it just wasn't for me.

It wasn't a good fit for what I'm looking for right now.
