The continuing saga of Kieri, Darrin, Arcolin and others

If you enjoy the world setting first introduced in "The Deed of Paksenarrion," and enjoyed "Oath of Fealty" (which precedes this story), then you should enjoy "Kings of the North" as well. Paks gets barely a mention in this volume, but many favorite characters are featured. I enjoyed the story enough to want to immediately reach for the next volume, "Echos of Betrayal."

Solid second volume, building on the storylines of the first one and bringing the good vs evil battles/learning to be leaders up a notch. I really like these characters and was glad there was a little bit of romance in this one (though in general am definitely here for all the camaraderie and role modeling going on too). A/A-.

Overall was an awesome book that I could barely put down, but wasn't a big fan of the romance drama at the end. Plus a couple things that didn't make sense at the end, like when  Kieri suspects there's an assassin running around the palace and then decides there's suddenly time to take a bath...? . Otherwise, continued the great intrigue and pacing of the previous book.

Such terrible covers. I always forget just how much I like these books. A few issues with some minor plot points, but I'd rather give four stars than 3.5

I am a big fan of fantasy novels especially if they are long and have several books in the series. I really enjoy a series of books that I can immerse myself in and this series allows me to do that. The story has many fascinating twists and turns and I find the characters to be very engaging. I first discovered these books years ago in a used book shop in Edinburgh and I have re-read them several times since.
