I really enjoyed learning about this part of the Manhattan project history but was not as invested in the narrative part of this book. It was good just subjectively not my favorite.

I didn't finish this book. I lost interest in the characters. The writing just wasn't engaging. I still find the subject matter interesting and would like to read about it, but I think I will try a nonfiction version.
The one redeeming aspect was the included photographs.

If you're looking for lots of action, this might not be your book.

If you enjoy different characters' backstories, motivations, and relationships, this is definitely for you! It's a pretty breezy read, and I really enjoyed every character. Not everyone is who they seem, and I appreciated that every character was given a fair shake and no one was painted with a 2D "good guy" or "bad guy" brush.

The main relationship between June and Dr. Cantor was pretty unhealthy and a little uncomfortable to read, but that's one of the main points, I think - sometimes we use what we've got to get through extraordinary times, and we come out okay on the other end.

I waited a long time to read this book and I was a little disappointed. First, I LOVED Xe Sands narration. Second, I loved the character development. But I felt it was a little anti-climatic. I found the last "wrap-up" to be the best part.
