This book was perfection!

It kept me up all night reading and if only I had the sequel, I would start that one immediately, too, even though I can barely keep my eyes open.
Susan Ee's writing style is amazing and Penry's story is unlike anything I've read so far. Super entertaining, gripping, funny, romantic, extraordinary.
I cannot wait to read the last book of the trilogy but I also don't want this series to end. Ever.

please release the next book....... I'm dying over here!!

Poor sequel. The first one was interesting, and this one went downhill. I'm not understanding all the high ratings, but to each their own.

The first half of the book was very flat. Written in the first person, it was Penryn basically describing everything that was happening. Oh, this guy now has a knife to his eyeball. This guy just got murdered. No emotion whatsoever, no reaction. Not even a comment about how numb she might have become to such violence - just plain narrating which was very boring and I found I was skimming more than anything because there was nothing interesting about what was happening. If your main character can't show any emotion to what's going on, then I'm just not going to care too much.

There was also a lot of repetitive talking about the same things, without coming to a conclusion. Let's talk about that dead body in front of our little sister and keep wondering if the blood was from said body or not. As in, let's not make the obvious conclusion. It seemed to keep happening (gee, that angel that looks like Raffe couldn't be Raffe, could it?), and I found I either skimmed or skipped whole paragraphs in chunks because of it.

And of course the silly mistakes. Not much for an editor, hm? I'm so short, I can't reach my enemy's face with my knife. So I'm going to kick him in the face. Raffe takes a kitchen knife from an abandoned house, making sure to keep it in it's sheath. Uh, what, the butcher's block? I don't know anyone who keeps kitchen knives in sheaths. She turned a device off twice in two paragraphs. There were many more goofs, especially with the action scenes, that just had me rolling my eyes. Yes, yes, we're in a world with angels and demons, but some of this stuff just had no real-world equivalent, or just wouldn't work with things like gravity and physics, pesky little things.

All in all, I found myself trying to finish it as fast as possible so I could move onto something better. I was extremely disappointed in this sequel. I'm going to have a hard time convincing myself if I decide to read the third when it comes out.

4.5 Heroic Stars!

What an amazing, anxiety inducing thrill ride!

Having fallen in love with the first book Angelfall, I wasn't certain if the sequal would be able to live up to my high expectations. I'm happy to say that World After was all that I could have hoped for.

Penryn - oh my goodness! Has there ever been a more kick-ass hero(ine)? Not only does she have her self defense training, but she now also wields an Archangel sword ... and the way she stands for the freedom and salvation of mankind ... wow! Even though she feels somewhat burdened and reluctant, Penryn always puts the needs of others first.
The supporting cast, although completely untraditional, are also amazingly brave. Even Penryn's mother & her craziness is able to show great strength. And don't even get me started on Paige - how can a patchwork kid who craves human flesh make you route for her?! I don't know, but I totally love her creepy little character.

Yes ... it's true that Raffe is MIA for a good portion of the book. And Yes ... I totally wish I had re-read Angelfall first. But, No ... neither thing really dampened my reading experience.

The story ends, not on a true cliffhanger but with the definite promise of more to come. And I can't wait!

Continuing in the tradition of the first book in the series, this one is more of the quirky, weird, scary-enough, surprisingly funny stuff of the first, with some interesting new character eccentricities added in for fun. I am loving this series.

So disappointed in this one. I feel like Ee's lost everything I liked from the first book and just dragged the story a little longer to be able to fill five books. We hardly got any story advancement, and the sense of humour I so enjoyed in the first book is practically non-existent. Paige feels like a hollow character, she is so much more in this book and we learn practically nothing about her, same goes for the mother.

4.5

This series is so good. I've come to appreciate the darkness of it, especially considering it's a bit darker than anything else I've read in Young Adult literature. I love the characters and the fact that it's fairly successful in keeping me on the edge of my seat.

I cannot wait for the conclusion. (In fact, I think I'm going to pick it up when I get done typing this.) I do have a few questions that I hope are answered in End of Days, and a couple of other things that I would like to see happen. I won't mention them in case of spoilers, but if you've read the series, I'm sure you have/had some of the same questions.

I will hopefully have a full review up for this in the future.

World After de Susan Ee.
