This is a book I actually won a free copy of way back when it was first released. And I'm really glad that I did!

I liked the first book well enough but I wasn't so sure I wanted to continue with the series. I was a little put off by the romance and while it was interesting, it didn't quite stand out the way some other books I've read have. But I won the free copy so obviously I was going to push through and give it a further look and I am very pleased with how the story unfolds in the sequel!

I actually like this book even more than the previous one in almost every way. I loved the adventure that Penryn goes on and how naturally the story takes it from one place to another - something that often feels forced in other stories trying to do the same thing. The action is exciting and I like how Penryn learns to fight - the story uses a much better method than simply making her a natural at something she's never used before. I even like the romance, something which is practically unheard of for me when it includes a man and a woman, so that alone is an impressive feat! On top of all that, the author perfectly blends the action with the political side on the angels, rather than making it a boring brawl there is more cunning and manipulation involved that helps it feel so real at times.

As a whole this was a thrilling, intense, heartbreaking and heartwarming story and it really makes me want to get my hands on the final book and find out how this tale ends.

Story got weird... but I’ll finish the series...

Boricuan Bookworms- Book Reviews

If you came here looking for a concise and coherent review, then you probably shouldn't read my review.

Before I even read this book, I knew I was going to rate it 4 stars or more. Call it expectation, call it being biased, but whatever it is, I always knew I was going to love it.

Susan Ee did not disappoint in bringing her masterful storytelling into the book. She didn't fail to create a wonderful heroine and make her keep being wonderful throughout the whole book. Romantic notions or ideas don’t distract Penryn; she has one mission: and that is to protect her sister, and survive (although she could sometimes indulge in a girly thought or two...). I can't help but applaud Susan Ee. I have to give her the biggest thumbs up in history for creating one of the most badass main characters I've ever seen. I feel like we can all learn from Penryn. Heck, I think we all want to BE Penryn if it means we also get Raffe in the deal.

Speaking of that handsome devil (appreciate my humour), Raffe is just so wonderful when he appears on a page. His sarcasm and charm just seems to fly off the pages. If there's something I want to complain about, it's the fact that it took him SO FREAKING LONG to appear in the book. I was beginning to feel disappointed when I didn’t see anything from him. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH RAFFE. NEVER.

I wish I could just rave about Penryn and Raffe this whole review, but I am trying to keep up a pretense of professionalism here, so I shall move on...  The pacing in this book is ascending, just like Angelfall was. Throughout the whole book there's this big build up to something mind-blowing that's going to happen near the end, and when it does, you'll be clutching the book in your hands not believing what you're reading.

I couldn't end my review without talking about the romance. Even if it's just a little. Penryn + Raffe are my ship. You shall not mess with my ship. You mess with my ship and things will go wrong... For you. Penryn and Raffe are so utterly perfect for each other. I think I'm still wearing a goofy grin that I've been sporting ever since Pen and Rafael were being way too cute. They protect each other, they care about each other, and they can be themselves around each other. Raffe doesn't stifle Penryn, and Penryn doesn't hold Raffe back. They are a force to be reckoned with.

If I'm going to look at this book as a professional and non-biased book reviewer, then I should probably rate this book 3-4 stars. But, since I feel like I should shout from the rooftops how amazing this book is, I declare that this book gets all the stars!  Every other book out there should just give up because World After is the bestest yet! You will need book 3 in your hands as soon as you finish it!
