4.1 AVERAGE

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this. This is probably the first book in this trilogy where I feel like I cared about everyone’s perspectives pretty equally, and didn’t get annoyed when the focus wasn’t on Simon or Baz. I thought the other characters and their relationships were interesting and well done.
With all that being said, I did have some issues with this. The first is that nothing from the last novel seemed pulled through to this one, besides a single character. Now, I don’t remember a whole lot from that novel, but I remember some pretty serious issues involving vampires and online videos that were seemingly forgotten about. The other thing I struggled with was Baz and Simon. I hated the last book because they weren’t really together and they were struggling. This book fixed that. And it did so immediately. Simon literally moved out to get away from magic, leaving his friends and Baz with little more than a note. And then almost immediately after, Simon changes his mind and tries again with Baz. I feel like if Rowell had taken more time, giving the reader Simon’s thoughts and feelings, showing us that he missed Baz, that he couldn’t live without him, and then decided to have him back in his life, it would have worked so much better. And while I didn’t completely mind, because I find the two so adorable together that I didn’t really want them to spend any further time apart, it was rushed and could have been handled better.

reading this for me is like i’m sisyphus and my damn rock is this series. but i’m done. finally. war is over.

the fact that plot points from the FIRST BOOK are just now getting acknowledged is crazy. the second book literally could’ve been a novella because nothing that happens in it is relevant here. the only thing from the second book here is shepard.

this was so bad and i was not having any fun. the only joy i got out of this was texting my best friend about how bad it was. that's all.

The plot was… honestly a mess. But I still enjoyed reading it, particularly the messy relationships and the open-endedness of the “This is what people do” message, specifically: keep trying.

(The second book was my favorite of the three, mostly for the laughs.)

I know that like everyone hates Rainbow Rowell now but the Simon Snow books are so much fun and this was fun and I had a good time reading it.

The first book in a while that made me pull an all-nighter. This book healed me, don’t ask me how!

Overall rating is 3.5 stars.

I've loved SnowBaz since I first read Fangirl in 2015, and they'll always be one of my favorite fictional couples. If I had to pick the book I loved the most in this trilogy, though, I'd have to say the first one. I felt myself burning out on reading while I was trying to make it through this novel, so maybe it skewered my overall thoughts, but this book and Wayward Son didn't feel like they matched my expectations in comparison to the first one.

Here's the thing: did the characters get their happy endings? Yes. Do the readers? In my opinion, no.

Too many questions are left unanswered, and I have to wonder if Rowell did that on purpose, in case she ever wants to return to this series. A lot of what we learn in Wayward Son, and here, just... doesn't seem to matter at all in the end? (Like Baz's crisis with what he learns being a vampire, for example.) I just wish more had been wrapped up before the book was over.

In the end, I wouldn't be mad if she ever did returned to SnowBaz in the future.
