Impresionante novela.

This book literally took me 4 months to read. Everyone was all “it’s a classic Nancy, you’ll love it!” I did not love it. Why is everyone in this novel so terrible?! The main antagonist is a Nice Guy (TM). I have so many issues with this book that I simply cannot even. That said, I’m looking forward to re-watching the Disney movie with the new knowledge that I have from reading the novel.

An ode to the lost architecture of mediaeval Paris, hidden within a spellbinding gothic tale worthy of its 'classic' label.

Hugo's supreme descriptions of every last detail pertaining to Notre-Dame, the Île de la Cité and other such Parisian architectural staples is but a supplement to his stupefying storytelling. Notre-Dame de Paris is a novel that will wrench emotion from the depths of the reader's being, inspire it with all-but-lost mediaeval architectural wonder, and even pepper it with well-written wit.

Truly transportary, where by the end the reader will know the Île de la Cité, the Place de Grève, the many lost darken alleyways of Paris and of course the cathedral itself by the back of their hand. A masterclass in descriptory writing, propping up a novel darker than most might think.

I just lost interest. The big words that they don't exactly teach you in school kinda helped deter me as well.

Honestly, it was ok. I think there are some themes that really just don't hit well anymore because of the cultural differences from the author's time to now. But I did enjoy actually knowing that I've read the original story.
