Masterfully written! This book kept me captivated from beginning to end.

That being said, I did have a few issues with it. First off, what's with the cover? My 7 year old even noticed and asked me why there was a naked butt on the cover of my book. The second thing that bothered me was the excessive use of a certain four letter word beginning with "f". I think the author was trying to make a point about how society determines what is "dirty" and what isn't (since the members believe "fight" to be a bad word, but have no problem with the "f" word), but it still bugged me.

I loved this book when I first read it in Jr. High School and I still love it now. Yes, there are certain scenes which make me cringe, and certain attitudes which probably don't play as well today as they did when the book was written, but overall, it's still a great book.

I liked it, I'm confused though. I did not saw that ending coming. I'm not sure if I liked the ending better that I thought would happen or the ending that actually happened.
I don't know if I hated the characters or liked them. I didn't like that Chip isn't predictable, you don't really read what he thinks or feels. On the other hand, I did like that I didn't knew what was going to happen.
The characters are not very interesting, the book focuses more on the world.

This one had been on my booklist for years, can't even remember why. It sure did suck, but it was an easy read. Rand-like anti communist propoganda, a computer controls the lives of everyone from name to chemical treatments that keep everyone happy. Our hero fights and wins against the machine, society and the man. The off hand rape scene was annoying, but you know how passionnate actions from such an enterprising protaganist can be forgiven. Or not. (December 08, 2003)

I pretty much loved every Ira Levin book I've read but I couldn't get on with this one. I really didn't like the main character. I didn't feel anything for him, he was not a good person and yet everything went right for home.

TW:Rape
I hated the scene where he assualts the main female character and it somehow makes her come to her senses and fall in love with him. That lost me.

Wow I loved this. One of the best dystopian books I've read so far. Gripping, I could not put it down, I loved every page.
