Read this book as a teenager (1980's) and reread it several times. The last time must have been a long time ago, because when I listened to it this time (dec 2023), I was surprised by the events. Still a great book!!
The only part that shocked me in a negative way was the rape scene. It added nothing to the story. It says something about the time period when the book was written (and about the author). Luckily for a lot of women times are different.

I can’t believe I almost took this off my TBR. What a wild ride
This book was really quite enjoyable and I finished it in only 2 days. While it's very similar to 1984 it has way more action and it covers different ground in terms of the themes it explores. While I feel parts of the book are dated, especially areas dealing with technology, the majority of the book seemed well explained and nothing realky seemed unbelievable.

The book lost a lot of ground for me when Chip raped Lilac and there were zero consequences and even some victim blaming. The misogyny throughout the book bothered me.

I've reread this one a couple of times. It's very pure science fiction. And the ending's a corker!

3,5 --- hay partes demasiado obvias para un 4*, aunque la descripción distópica de la sociedad "igualitaria" sea inquietante, así como el comportamiento de los "rebeldes" ().
Hay errores típicos de la época, como asumir ordenadores centralizados y control social defectuoso (en los aeropuertos actuales no se pasea alegremente por las pistas de aterrizaje, ni se sienta a los niños en la falda de los adultos si hay pasajeros en exceso).
La población es suficientemente diversa desde lo étnico (y no tiene la menor importancia), pero no hay la mínima sugerencia de homosexualidad. Las mujeres, eso sí, son tratadas como inferiores

It was written by a man in 1969, so it’s a but rapey at times and full of mysogenistic views on sex, which was gross, but overall it’s a really fantastic book about a world in which everyone is medicated by a large computer to the point that they want to do whatever the computer tells them. It follows the story of one guy as he discovers that there are those who are trying to change, trying to make their own decisions.
Good Book
Very great read. This is my third time reading this book, and it never gets boring to me. Read it.
