The first time I read this book I was 12 years old.
Heh!
I read it with a morbid curiosity to try and understand my parent with bipolar disorder who was fascinated by Plath, her writings, and her multiple attempts to unalive herself. Not only were they fascinated but modeled their life after her.
This time around I was captivated with Plath’s weaving of words. Nevertheless, I still don’t understand. Perhaps I never will.

My favourite FMC’s are depressed, alienated from the world, and facing madness; Definitely could have done without Sylvia Plaths racism shining through though.

Love love loved this book. Upset that I haven’t read any Sylvia Plath until now at almost 39 years old. High school me was just screaming for this. Instead I had JD Salinger and Bukowski and Poe, which served me well, but obviously a female point of view would have been life changing. Anyway, even now I’m touched by how much I relate to her writing and how poignant her prose is. Definitely going to do a deep dive into the rest of her stuff
