This is a self improvement book masquerading as a funny, touching novel of exploration, coming-of-middle-age, friendship and compassion. Tilda Finch is a middle aged businesswoman, mother to two adult daughters, recently divorced, reasonably happy, woman. One morning she wakes up to find that one of her fingers has disappeared. When she rules out her drinks from a party the night before, Then an ear disappears, and she runs to her doctor-friend who rules out the usual suspected illnesses, she diagnoses the incurable Invisibility Disorder which plagues many women over 40. Tilda has felt invisible for most of her adult life. When she is referred to a Support Group for women with her disease where the members seem resigned to their conditions, she elects to find a controversial therapist who helps her to understand that if she can’t see herself, she can’t expect others to. A new friend believes she is flawless leading her to begin to think of herself differently.

This book is a light, engaging look at how the “hidden” voices we listen to can make us feel invisible. When just one voice results in us seeing ourselves a little differently, we learn about being compassionate and looking to see what is really there.

This is a sensitive, warm, funny story with good characterization, story telling, romance. Recommend to readers of contemporary literature, romance, magical realism, fantasy, and self awareness.
