This is an astonishing novel. It is told through the eyes of two Afghani women and takes place from the late 1970's to 2004. Gripping storytelling. One of the best novels I have read in a long time. Content warning for domestic violence, war, and acts of terror.

The beginning of this novel is a tad bit clunky, since Khaled is speaking from a perspective he cannot truly understand. Toward the end of the novel, once you are thoroughly invested in its characters, the story becomes easier to follow and more moving. It isn't Hosseini's best work, but it is worth a read.
