3.75 Stars (spoiler warning)
I loved the first third of the book - all the scheming and manipulating was really satisfying to read, and tbh, Tamlin had it coming. I wouldn’t have minded reading more about it.
It was interesting to learn more about the other courts in Prythian, but it would have been great to get even more information about them. I often got the different courts and high lords confused with each other. It’s much easier to remember the summer court and Tarquin for example, because there was some story going on there.
I also really enjoyed the new characters (like Helios, Viviane, Jurian and Eris) and it was nice to see more of other characters like the suriel, the bone carver and bryaxis.
“Here’s to family reunions” :3
I particularly liked the meeting of the High Lords and wish that scenes like that one would have been longer. Some other storylines were a bit tedious to read. While the first part was a 5/5 for me, the rest of the book unfortunately fell off. I didn’t like the battle scenes and I’m surprised that it actually ended on such a positive note. I expected a bit more sacrifices, but I guess a true HEA is a nice surprise for once.
Tamlin having some sort of character redemption after already suffering enough was a good decision in my opinion. I like it more when characters aren’t 100% good or bad and it makes it more realistic that way.
I’m also curious to see how it ends with Lucien & Elain, because I wouldn’t mind seeing a mated pair that doesn’t end up together and how it would play out in their world.
All in all, it was an enjoyable and entertaining book (with a few weaknesses) and I can recommend it to fans of the series.
“There is no such thing as a High Lady” – “There is now.”

This is absolutely my favorite so far in the series! I heard the next couple of books focus on other characters so I’m excited to see where they take me.
