slow-paced
Overall Rating: 4/5
Honestly, after book two this was a slower ride but I enjoyed it overall it just took a while to get into it. I do love that The Thunderhead is essentially running a rebellion except it’s still respects its self inflicted rules of not interfering with Scythe business. Instead its silence speaks more than its words.
Overall the ending concluded the story in the most perfect way for this series - that is in a way that makes you question everything. I’m

Really solid conclusion to the series! I am constantly amazed by authors who can bring together so many shifting pieces and create satisfying moments. I'll agree with other reviewers that this book lacked the urgency and discovery of the first two books, but I think it made up for it with emotional impact. I cried... a lot. There were a lot of great character moments and i didn't feel cheated by any of the paths they went down.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! This world is so rich and full of adventure. It really makes you wrestle with questions of morality in the face of immorality.

Not a bad book at all, but for sure the weakest one in the series.
I don't think it was too long; the plot was fast-paced and didn't have many (if any) dull moments. I think the length was actually necessary in order for the series to wrap up well. The main problem I had with this book was the timelines and POV shifts. In the end, I was able to figure out the chronological order of events but during at least the first quarter of the book, I was a bit confused. Since the years don't have numbers, rather they are named after animal species, I never knew where the book was in the timeline. At the beginning of the book it picked up right after the concluding events of the last book, but then the point in time shifts until every character is in the same point in time, which happens about 3 years (I believe) after the last book's events. It's just confusing because I had to figure out what happened at what point in time instead of it all just being chronological. I don't think we needed this many POV's either. Almost every character had a POV. I found it unnecessary to switch back between so many people.
Other than that, the book was great. The ending was fantastic, especially the final line in the book. The new characters were also great. I really liked Jeri. I think Citra and Jeri had more chemistry than Citra with Rowan, but that's just me... and I see why Jeri ended up being with a different character instead. Also, I think it's interesting how badly the world devolved in this book. Not in a storyline sense, but in a wow shit has really hit the fan type of way. It ended up being a full on dystopia with some amazing conflict. A unique series that is worth the read if you haven't done so yet.
