this book both did way too much and not nearly enough.

i was also hopeful that by the last book some interesting concepts would be explored that just… never were. Like how much do the emotion nanites contribute to the people’s general listlessness rather than it being a natural byproduct of immortality? How do the families of those who have been supplanted not grow resentful of the Thunnderhead? How did the actual unsavories react to the world being marked unsavory?

and i can’t emphasize enough how little i cared about the Rand / Tyger relationship

Wow. I’m at a loss for words. This was such a thoroughly enjoyable read. I wish every book I read was like this one. The structure, the writing style, the story that introduces new characters and elements so seamlessly.

I haven’t read a trilogy of books this quickly in a long time, and for each of them to be so consistently fabulous was refreshing.

I’m so glad a fourth companion book to the series just came out, because I want to continue living in this world.

easy 5/5.

Bruh. Tyger coming back. Faraday finally finding a fulfilling purpose as a scythe - knowing what he is doing is bringing people peace when he’s been tormented by his job his whole life. Citra and Rowan reuniting after 117 years of him waiting for her to be revived. FRICK!
