Mmmmm. Shade. *evil grin* What a beautiful specimen this Seminus demon is, but what a hot mess he got himself into. Due to Shade's sexual nature, he is now suffering a curse that was placed upon him when said nature got him into trouble. Bedding a warlock's wife is never going to turn out in your favor, and Shade has to go through life without ever knowing what love feels like. Unless, of course, he wants to die.
Dun dun duuuuuuuun.
Shade has a past with Runa, but apparently feelings began to emerge and well, he had to nip that in the bud pronto. Being that it's hard to forget a Seminus demon once you have experienced a Seminus demon, Runa has been going through some serious heartache and anger because of Shade's departure. Flashbacks show us that past Runa is nothing like present Runa, who is hellbent on making Shade pay for her misery. Present-day Runa ha changed in more ways than meets the eye, however. She now has some special qualities that make her unique, both good and bad in this world.
How the hell these two end up trapped together in a dungeon is a story you will have to uncover. It involves jealousy, betrayal and a wee bit of sibling rivalry. I personally found this evil entity to be awe to the some. Great villain. Why they have been captured is a great story, and as you would expect, they have to work together to get the hell outta that mess. Being in tight quarters brings up old memories and feelings, desires and regrets.
Shade does not share the "can't we all just get along" personality of his brother, Eidolon, and comes off as an "act now, think later" sort of guy. It's quite apparent that this guy has been through the wringer, and you really just want him to get the girl in the end. Breaking the spell of a pissed-off husband with a vendetta will take some serious collaboration, disagreement and heartache, but in the end, can a vendetta spell of such hatred really be broken? Runa is another great female in this series. I have a feeling that Larissa Ione will deliver on every female that we meet in this world. Faults and strengths collide to present us with believable ladies who you cheer for. On the sidelines. Away from their men. Trust me on this...
I loved the banter between characters in this book. These brothers are ones you will fall in love with. Fast. They are so protective and passionate about their family and mates, though they don't necessarily get along and agree 100% of the time. Wraith has been a standout since book one, and I cannot wait to experience his story.

I have to say. The author made the main male interest just enough of an asshole to where I thought I would hate him, but never managed to make him cross that line entirely. I love how we got the see the couple from the last book, but this time focus on the 2nd brother and his situation. I greatly enjoyed this book! Just as fun as the first one.
Absolutely loved it! The more I read the more I fall in love with this series. So glad I have the rest waiting on my Nook. :)
Loved reading this book again, they're a great couple, enjoyed spending more time in this world, can't wait to reread more!

Oh, this was a really awesome book! Loved Shade and Runa's story, it was really great, and how they dealt with things, and how things connected, and made sense! Really great!

The first one clearly reminded me of Black Dagger Brotherhood but Desire Unchained made the Demonica series one in its own.
Shade's character grasped me from the start. The tortured soul but way deep down has a caring heart and all he wants to do is love. But instead he's forced to deal with many females inner pain, demon or human, and has to resolve them even if he doesn't want to. Along comes Runa the perfect match but unfortunately in the past Shade broke her heart. What Runa didn't know was about the curse that could force Shade to be invisible to the world and suffer in silence not being able to feed or have sex if he falls in love.
There was something about Shade and Runas' relationship that made me feel for them. They loved each other but couldn't admit it to themselves because of many personal conflicts they couldn't resolve, not without each other. And when they finally do get together, even though forced, there's something holding them back and at the end when it finally comes clean you can't help but love them more.
Update 2021: even though a bit better than the first, there is a lack of depth. Two people don’t have to connect just because they’re troubled. It’s like Runa’s back story was only used as a mechanism for Shade’s power to make them grow closer. Runa would’ve been just fine as a woman who had a low self esteem and met a man, Shade, who made her question her safe life choices imo

DESIRE UNCHAINED was infinitely better than the first book in the Demonica series, and I thought that I loved that one! One of the downsides of a series that keeps getting better as you go is that the earlier books seem less amazing than they actually are because of the epic-ness of the later books. This is a sad but true fact of life. Gotta love it XD
Interesting book, with a cursed hero, a scorned woman and a psycho villain. It has a few twists and the story gets more complex as you go along to learn more about the demon world. There are also a couple of side stories that will probably progress in future books.
Looking forward to Wraith's book - according to the preview it'll be a good one.
