I’ve read many Harry Moon stories in the past couple of months, but I think this one is my favourite.

This story had a very creepy theme. Strange creatures, who are controlled by the mayor, ran the newspaper office in their town. They looked like something out of Doctor Who! It was creepy, but I liked the mystery of the creatures.

As in the other Harry Moon stories, there are teaching moments throughout the adventure. Harry learned discipline by taking over his friend’s paper route. And he ended up seeing what a beautiful town he lives in when first light happens in the morning.

This was a great middle grade story.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher on NetGalley.

There are so many things that I adore about the Harry Moon series for kids. They have a bit of spooky, without nearing Goosebumps spooky at all. They have great lessons and morals tucked in there subtly. The characters take responsibility and are truly good friends, not just people that hang around together. I could go on and on.

In First Light, Harry takes over Declan's paper route for the week that he's on vacation and it leads to some interesting experiences. Like good friends, those left behind are bummed that they aren't at Disneyworld as well but are really happy for Declan and his family. Harry slowly observes before taking action, as he should, doesn't just jump into danger or where he doesn't belong and notices the beauty of the dawn and his empty city before everyone is awake as he delivers his papers around the city.

It seems like every new one I read is my favorite.
