Ok... I have a lot to say about this book. Was it was I expected?
No.
Did I actually enjoy it (apart from the factors that CLEARLY made for discomfort)?
Yes.
There is clear character development in this book. I mean, it has a strangely unique plot too because of what FL endured with her parents. I haven't heard of a trope specifically like this before. And the step-family... man. The only character I will say that felt a little under-written was Noah. He's still a mystery to the reader.

I did enjoy Penelope Douglas's writing. I did read a previous work of hers that I did not enjoy and this was easy to burn through in like 3ish days, once I got hooked.

*SPOILERS*

Now for Tiernan to end up with Kaleb?????????????? I mean hey I can't complain. She is the one that got him to speak again, let alone leave Colorado. You kind of figured she would leave her old life behind once the author illustrated out much she loved Chapel Peak and didn't want to leave. She was a female made for simple life. I'm glad Noah got what he wanted and was able to make it out. I sense a developing romance between Jake and Mirai though...

Anyways, I can see why people did not enjoy this book. Again, I'm a person that reads with an open mind and knows that these things are... FICTION. Meant to entertain. Meant to not manifest itself in reality (although I'm sure there is some person out in the world living this life unfortunately).

Also, Cici and Holcomb can suck it.

this book was too much. FMC was soooo annoying. Kaleb situation was ridiculous. sex scenes were good if you forget about how they know each other. could be good if character relationships were different (i know that was the point but still). i went into this completely unknowing what i was getting myself into and i could've lived without it
