What a funny book! It comes across with the cover as something that is going to be fairly light-hearted, maybe a romcom? But then we get into these really deep topics right away, like someone having a baby when they don't want to be a mom, like people who shouldn't be having a child leaving the child with strangers, like someone who feels scorned by her ex-husband exacting revenge. These really deep topics that were almost glossed over, and they weren't given their weight. However, all that being said, I actually enjoyed the story and was interested in the resolution. I love that they made this house on Waverly Place become kind of its own character, I really wish I could have actually seen into the house. This definitely feels like a book that could lead to sequels, so I'm interested to see if that happens. I still had a few of those odd experiences, where it feels like the dialogue in a conversation wasn't totally fully thought out, so we made some jumps in logic in order to get to the next plot point, but overall it was a fairly enjoyable read. I don't know that it was very deep read, but it was fun and fast and engaging enough that I felt interested in the entire storyline.
The Sweet Spot reminded me of the TV show White Lotus meets the movie Hangover…but set in NYC. Cute story, but so many coincidental connections it seemed implausible. I was intrigued by the pottery that Lauren painted & the chaotic relationships at the brownstone. But the Olivia, Felicity, Lauren, Melinda & Evelyn saga was too much…series after series of unfortunate events just keep washing in making the story too hard to believe. The Hangover & White Lotus were mesmerizing & entertaining but sadly for me, this book did not hit the “Sweet Spot”.
Ultimately, I’d still recommend reading it though…it was truly about friendships, careers, family, and love. Sometime second chances are worth the fight.

Chaotic and funny, like all Amy Poeppel books. I loved the setting and grew to love all of the characters (except you, Felicity) and found myself laughing out loud at the insanity of it all. It definitely took a while to get going, but I'm glad I trusted the process and hung in there long enough to enjoy this book. Perfect poolside summer read!
