this was a re-read for me and it still holds up as my go-to comfort book. This is a wholesome, funny, charming novel that soothes a person the way a favorite sitcom does. I could read this book again and again and I feel it would wear like one of the old velour coats a cherished character from the book tucked away. I’d recommend this book to anyone who needs a laugh or who wants to read about building an unlikely yet loving community.

Too many characters with varying levels of page time. The main plot point from the summary (here have a baby!) didn't occur until over halfway through. The book was unnecessarily long. I wanted more from so many characters as most had some interesting tidbits but we get the most from a character (Melinda) who is consumed by an unnerving level of rage. I almost DNF'ed.

I never wanted to leave this family and their home. I have no idea how she was able to make a book with SO many characters still feel so intimate. I loved it.
