i read this book about year ago, i am writing review only now, nevermind lol
anyways, when i started reading, i didn't know what to expect. everything that i know about snsd and jessica was that they are in sm ent, jessica was kicked out and names of two songs. but one my friend said to me that the book is great, so i started to finding some pdf version.
and my honest opinion is that i love it. okay, i hate mina and some other characters, but rachel and leah are actually one of my favourite book sisters. and i ship rachel and jason forever ^^
also i enjoyed it because jessica wrote about trainee life and debuting and i love k-pop, so... :D
i love shine ❤

Going into this book, I was expecting almost a "pure-escapist" modern romance and drama-filled story giving some insight into the K-pop world.
After reading it, I was drawn into the overarching theme of letting yourself shine (yes I am namedropping the title
However, the book really suffered from being too fast-paced and jumping from an unrealistic scene to an unrealistic scene with only a small paragraph of explanation. A lot of things felt very forced or unneeded in the story as well. The main character was also just meh
But overall, it was still a nice teen fiction book to read that definitely does overdo its cheesiness and use of tropes but I'm a sucker for those things so what can I say
oh yeah one last thing - you should go into the book knowing that it's a series with a sequel because the second half of the book kinda raises more questions than answers and ends a bit abruptly. can't wait for the sequel tho

It was fine for a debut novel even though I think I should've lowered my expectation.
K-pop is a world I know little about until a friend shared her knowledge and this read. Written by a former K-pop star, it was a fascinating story about the teens trying to make it in the industry. Looking forward to the eventual sequel.
The first 2-star book I think.... this review is nothing that I haven't said or mentioned before. I should've checked for the age group because this was too easy a read and has the content fitting for koreaboo-me back in 2012. I KNOW I would have ATE this book back then but sadly it just doesn't hit.
I was expecting detailed descriptions and realistic depictions of characters but the plot and interactions seemed way too shallow. Still, I guess it's my fault for not checking the target audience for this book beforehand. The ending was really cheesy and cringe (I'm so sorry Jessica T_T). Nevertheless, the fact that a K-idol wrote this book does give the book a lot more substance when it comes to the depiction of how life as a trainee looks like and what goes through your head at that phase.
I most likely will not pick up the second book in the series but I am intrigued to discover more books that revolve around the life of a K-Idol, etc.

I ultimately did enjoy this book. I had moments where I doubted the truth to some things and had to remind myself that it was a fictional book (even though Jessica says there is some truth to it). The writing was simple, but that was okay for a debut. The characters too mean and unlikable except for a few, small side characters like the family and school friends. I wasn't even crazy about Rachel herself. I tried to just enjoy it as a K-drama in book form, which worked well. I look forward to the sequel.
I didn’t manage to finish this book. I would have liked to but it was ridiculously dull and I just couldn’t bring myself to read another page
