I loved the art and see promise in the characters, but I too was left confused by the plot and will read the second volume in hopes of understanding things better (if I come across it).

Wanted to give this a second chance because of how much I love the creative team, but this didn’t feel any more coherent in trade form than in single issue. Don’t understand how we can be so many issues in and not understand the rules of this world or really care much about any of the characters. The dialogue and such here is just too abstract. Definitely won’t be reading more, but hope Hinkle gets on another book soon.

This trade is a gorgeous mess and I can't wait for the second one. The reaction to it as disorganized is expected, but its potential heavily outweighs any chaos in this first arc. For Fable fans that crave a darker fair than Shutter, lovers of bold color pallets, noir, revolution(s) and whimsical but gruff animal people who work in bars.
