I just finished this book and I’m such a mess. listen I cried over this book. probably the best thriller I’ve ever read. I loved the multiple povs and how creepy and messed up it was. I swear I’ve been waiting for a story like this for ages. As someone from the LGBTQ+ community this book means so much to me. Thank you John Fram. Thank you.
I want to sit on this one for a while...I can't tell if I love it or hate it.

This story and the main character, Joel’s, journey held me captive. I was equally enthralled and horrified by this dark thriller.
A very impressive debut novel! The plot is certainly unique, even if the characters are mostly cliches, with the jock-ish football players all blurring together. Despite this, the large cast and multiple POV style works well up until the revelation of the Bright Lands. That final 1/4 however, is incredibly messy and there are many needlessly short chapters from the abundance of characters involved. Tightening/clarifying up the last portion (and shortening it) would've greatly improved the story, since the best part of a mystery-thriller is all the clues coming together to form the truth and instead it was jumbled up. Although there are supernatural elements that take you out from the realistic lens of the story, there were also sprinkled in some poignant truths about gay masculinity/shame and the veneer of normalcy in small towns.
I read this book because a Booktuber I followed recommend it and said it was pretty good and creepy. The book was creepy towards the end but the book is really more about "what THE HELL is going on in this small town".
The story is about Joel. He is a young man who left town years ago. He returns because he his little brother, Dylan is in trouble. Dylan is the star quarterback of his football team and everyone loves him. Dylan texted Joel that he wants to get out and doesn't want to play football anymore. Joel leaves New York and returns to his small home town to help his little brother. Shortly after Joel's return, Dylan is found dead. No one knows what happened but something is very wrong in this town. Everyone is having nightmares. Joel is hearing voices. There seems to be a secret that only the football team knows about.

Woweeee so good, a little thrown off by some twists but overall engaging and fun and a wild ending
This really threw me for a loop. I liked it I think. Am somewhat dissatisfied with the way things rolled out, but only because I was so badly wanting it to be something different. Weird though
EDIT: I just tried to explain this book to a friend but actually do not even understand the plot in hindsight so
