Like 3.5? I really liked what this book had to say but it just wasn’t what I expected going in. I’m glad I read it because I think it will be a 5 if I find the right person to recommend it to.

Wow. My best word for this book is unsettling. Mystery elements along with supernatural elements. Also, I normally hate stories told from multiple points of view but John Fram does a fantastic job.

DID NOT FINISH: 52%

The editing of this novel is leaves so much to be desired it’s distracting. Describing a score in football as a goal, repeatedly referring to “defensive safety” as if there is a safety on offense, the distracting multiple points of view., basically re-introducing characters with literal descriptions of who they are each chapter.

It’s Friday Night Lights meets Twin Peaks by way of Stephen King, with the biting social commentary of a Jordan Peele flick.

It’s also gay. As fuck.

John Fram methodically chips away at the pearly-white veneer of small-town Texas and exposes the eldritch horrors beneath, commenting on conservatism and faith-based hypocrisy in the meantime, and making you question everything you thought you knew about “traditional values.”

If that isn’t enough to convince you to rush to your nearest online checkout, then I don’t know what is.
