Joel comes back to his conservative Texas hometown because his younger brother has gone missing. Joel left Texas because the people in his hometown did not accept him as a gay man. Once he gets back to Texas he realizes that something sinister is happening.

The more I think about this book, the more I like it. I loved the alternating POV's. I loved the social commentary. I went into this book thinking it was more of a thriller, but it's definitely horror. There are some truly scary moments, especially in the second half of the book. This was a great time.

This was not what I expected and it started off really well but it got weird. Homophobia, rape and orgies, add in an evil entity. It just went a completely different direction and was not enjoyable.

2.5 stars.
This book was really messy for me and I struggled to keep up with all the perspectives and the constant character switching. The last quarter of the book was a bit too unbelievable for me and it got really gory which I didn’t expect. I enjoyed some aspects of the story but overall I don’t think this was for me.

This novel is definitely a must read for fans of the mystery genre; especially if you love a side serving of Stephen King!

The story is told from multiple perspectives as a small town in Texas deals with the murder of their star football player. While the mystery unfolds, the plot takes us through some real life issues like bigotry, racism and homophobia. Who is truly guilty, members of the town or Bosheth, the supernatural entity that lives underneath The Flats?

I was enthralled throughout!

The audiobook was great but not the book

Too many characters with no development. Could have skipped the writing of the sports action, especially when using terminology that has nothing to do with that sport.
