This book definitely kept me interested the whole time. It had some sci fi aspects I wasn't expecting that usually aren't my jam, but it was enjoyable and I did NOT see the ending coming and I love that.
3.5

Ok, I will start with a warning: this book is NOT a psychological thriller, it's a fantasy novel. If you want to read fantasy, it is not really bad. Keep this in mind. (And the stupid person suggesting this book on reddit, f*ck you. You made me lose my precious hours!)
FROM THIS POINT, SPOILERS BEGIN. (So other people who were furious with the book, you can read after this -just like I did once I finished the book)
FIRST, ALL THE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THE GENRE, THANKS FOR NOT LETTING ME FEEL LIKE A NUTCASE.
Characters:
1) We aren't even introduced to one of the main characters until the very end, wth? Plus, after finishing the book, I looked through the book to see if Adele's being Rob was so geniusly hinted throughout the book but no. There were very very subtle stuff that could be interpreted in many ways but nothing to be a slightest clue. If there were some well-hidden implications, I'd be thrilled to be cheated. But the duality is never introduced, it is like feeding a fat cat for years and one day she gives a birth and it is like "ok you have kittens now". Well, this scenario is better built than the book's.
2) Louise is an idiot. I can accept someone who has always been a helper and guilt-ridden to see things blurry so tries very hard, but. BUT. (Let's imagine that I made peace with this ridiculous spiritual walking thing -which I didn't, and cannot since this is supposedly a psychological thriller) After seeing how manipulated you were, and seeing how Adele acts to get the things she wants and how far she is willing to go, you CAN'T be stupid enough to do something she taught you how to do... My dog is 2 years old and she's smarter than that.
Plus, Louise is thirty-something, right? I understand (well not understand, but am used to the fact that) people tend to see&judge relationships in the way they think they're supposed to work, and even if they contradict themselves it is not something they see. BUT. After -internally- judging the way Sophie does things, how can a person be blind to their own actions like this? How she sees things is way worse than how Sophie does. It's highschool-level behaviour. GROW THE HELL UP!
Also, Louise is a mother. God, I'm not a mother, but I have a cat and a dog and I'm much more invested in their well-being than Louise is in Adam's. Poor kid. She accepts his love when she needs to be loved, but she's usually too tired or whatever to deal with him. I'd not even let that woman adopt a stray from me.
I can talk about Louise more but I feel too irritated now.
3) David. Oh, the man all three falls for. While I like a farmer boy working his way through being a doctor, there is nothing that charming about him. I understand Adele (the one who died when she was 18) because they were both so young and spent a lot of time together, plus she was very neglected and was literally saved by David. But with Rob? I mean he fell in love with a man he didn't even know. He didn't bother trying to spend time with him and take him from Adele but he's a sociopath so... With Louise, she says "oh he makes me laugh he makes me feel special" but "how" he does those things are never really mentioned, the author didn't even bother.
Pressure does terrible things to a person and everybody deals differently, but, if he's strong/weak enough to drink the day away for years, he could either keep his mouth shut or break things much earlier so that doesn't make sense.
My point is, while the characters are interesting, they're not well-written. The way the story is handled makes it like they are, but they aren't.
I was going to write a lot more but I guess I have gotten the poison out of my system. I wish this book could be unwritten.
(I'm giving it 2 stars because people who want to read a fantasy novel might like it a little)

Wow. This book is a total mind f*ck. There are so many twists and turns and when you start to think the “road” is straightening out, it bends even more. And that ending? WOW. I really didn’t see that coming… It gave me goosebumps! Where the author came up with this stuff is beyond me, but it certainly makes the book stand out from many in the genre. Now, I can’t give away much information about the plot because I think it will spoil the story for many readers but I will say this. This is a compulsively good read and I became obsessed with it. I honestly didn’t want to put it down because I wanted to know where the story was going and how everything would wrap up in the end. Many people have mentioned that the ending of this book is totally insane and unlike any other, and I personally have to agree (because I haven’t seen anything like it). This is what actually got me to read it in the first place. So, if you want to know WHY people are talking about it like this, then you will have to read it for yourself. But be warned, it does start off a tad slow but I think this is to real draw readers into the suspenseful aspect of the book. It just builds slowly and then when everything starts to come together it BURSTS. You will probably be shocked, and you will probably like the book MORE due to the ending… Just saying.
For those who follow my reviews, please note that this is not a romance novel. This is a twisted psychological thriller that follows the lives of three individuals whose lives become intertwined through lies, deceit, and psychopathy. It is a slightly slow moving thriller, but one that will leave you NEEDING to read on because of the plot is so thick with insanity. If you are a fan of these types of books than I strongly recommend reading this one. Just be warned, you may become obsessed just like I did…

Imma be honest, besties, idk how to even rate this. I listened to it as an audiobook, and I thought the narration was awesome. I did enjoy it as an audiobook. BUT, when I was recommended this book, I was told that the plot twist would be huge, you'd never see it coming. Idk, I just don't feel that way lol. I could foresee bits and pieces of what was going to happen from the beginning. That's not to say that I understood every single twist and turn because I definitely did not. But someone in another review said that too much was given away too soon, and I agree completely. I think it was a good book, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the earthshattering book that it was made out to be, for me at least!
