Great storytelling and particularly loved Adele’s narration. However, the supernatural elements definitely threw me off a bit. 4/5

This started off as an okay read, but I could not buy into that final twist.

“Everyone should be allowed their secrets. You can never know everything about a person. You’d go mad trying to.”
Having recently finished [b:The Housemaid|60556912|The Housemaid (The Housemaid, #1)|Freida McFadden|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1646534743l/60556912._SY75_.jpg|95443525] by Freida McFadden, I couldn’t help but feel like I was flung back into her mediocre world while reading Behind Her Eyes - the writing style felt eerily similar too. The parallels between the two books were uncanny; both featured a seemingly-perfect-yet-dysfunctional couple whose marital discord is the central plot point, a supposedly "crazy" wife, a husband whose intentions are highly questionable, and an innocent woman unwittingly caught up in their marital mess.
The story revolves around Louise, a single mum with a monotonous life. One night, she decides to let loose and hit the bar, meeting a handsome man named David in a drunken haze. Their connection seems promising until two revelations are brought to light: first, David is married, and second, he’s just been hired as a psychiatrist at the office where Louise works part-time as a receptionist.
Things take a turn when Louise inadvertently bumps into Adele, David’s beautiful wife. Louise ends up initiating a friendship with Adele, all while shamefully continuing her flirtation with Adele's husband, David. The resulting love triangle is messy, stressful and full of secrets, with Louise struggling to keep each relationship as separate as possible. As long as one doesn’t find out about the other, Louise convinces herself she can enjoy the best of both worlds. What's the worst that could happen?
It's interesting to me that a lot of readers really liked this book purely based on the ending, when for me that was the worst part of the entire novel. It was truly nonsensical, defied all logic and left me speechless—not in a good way. The ending felt like a complete cop-out—an attempt to shock readers with the most random plot twist rather than presenting a satisfying ending. It just veered into territory that felt absurd and disconnected from the rest of the book.

This book really was great. I was completely confused for most of it but that's my favorite kind of book. The ending was just so far out there (it was clearly meant to be that way but just not exactly what I wanted). I thought that the characters were so well written and I loved so much of this book. I wish it hadn't gone so strange at the end.
