A twist that I never saw coming. There were plenty of times that I got confused in the book, later I understood why I was confused.
I rounded my review up to a 4. This was a good read. I see that there's a show, I'm going to have to check it out now.

4.5 stars
I picked this book up because it seemed that everywhere I looked people were talking about the ending and after finishing it I can chime in and say, seriously, #WTFthatending!
Because I read so much I typically am able to see a 'twist' kind of ending coming from a mile away so I mainly wanted to read this because I was CONVINCED I would figure it out pretty early on and I was prepared to feel pretty smug about it.
I did not figure it out. Not even close. I thought I had it, but I really, really didn't. If you choose to read it, you will think you've got it figured out. But you will be wrong. I promise.
When I hit the final chapter, in the middle of the first paragraph, I audibly said WHAT THE HELL IS THIS.
On the face of it, this isn't a terribly original story - Louise meets David at a bar, they hook up annnnd then it turns out David is Louise's new boss and he is actually married to a woman named Adele. Adele runs into Louise one day and they strike up a friendship and as time goes by Louise gets swept into their world. No spoilers here, by the way. It's in the description and happens pretty much immediately.
The reason I've rated it so high isn't necessarily because I loved the story. While I found the pacing to be engaging and I rather liked her writing style, there were a few things that would have probably made me end up rating this a 3, if not for that ending. Pinborough tipped her hand too early, in my opinion, about a few things which made a lot of Louise's thoughts and actions seem incredibly naive. There were many surreal things that seemed to exist for no other reason than to service the ending and which made it hard to categorize this into one genre.
But you know what? It was ballsy and it caught me off guard. I feel like while writing this the author was thinking, 'should I really do this? Is this a good idea? Fuck it, I'm just gonna go for it regardless.'
I'm glad she did.

I don't usually read these but everyone talking about the show. I didn't like any characters (part of why don't usually read these) but liked the twists in the plot. The end was very much like the credits in Wild Things.
I wasn’t expecting the surrealism, but it kind of worked. Interesting twist
4 stars. Audiobook.
Wowwwwww. I saw the first twist but...the second? That got me.
I took off one star because it felt a littleeee too long. I was starting to get exasperated near the end. That "Just wrap it up!" feeling.
