I couldn’t put this book down! It was a fast read and I loved the trimerge of perspectives. DEFF gave me Atonement vibes. There was a plot twist I sort of anticipated but still loved. I will say, I wasn’t expecting this book to be as dark as it was—trigger warning for scenes of s*xual assault/r*pe, and SI and s*icide. That aside, the story is well told, it was fascinating learning about some of the biggest champagne houses and their bravery and heroism during WWII. Plus, the fun little tidbits about winemaking! Ultimately, Kristin Harmel’s books make me want to travel wherever the setting is and this one is no different. Definitely enjoyed the story in both past and present settings.
Loved the setting and history but found some characters undeveloped and sometimes annoying. Would have been a 3 but I had just visited the Champagne region so I was blinded by the bubbles!!

World War II and wine-making. The storyline kept me reading - I was just a little discouraged with the characters - they weren’t as developed as I would have liked - I just didn’t feel a connection with any of them. But the ending has a great twist!
