I’m not even certain how to rate this book! I hated the casual breaking of marriage vows and cannot imagine those characters would have acted so blatantly but I loved the full circle, the flow of the writing and the history. I loved reading about Champagne and not just Paris.

I recommend the book…it’s engaging and you’ll be sucked into the story!

I picked up this book because The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel was one of my top 5 books from last year! While The Winemaker’s Wife probably won’t make it into my top books of this year, I did enjoy this book quite a bit!

Set in the beautiful Champagne region of France during World War 2, the Winemaker’s Wife tells the story of a group of champagne makers that join the French resistance. I loved her description of the wine making process and the champagne house itself - that may have been one of my favorite parts of the book!

The book was told from multiple perspectives, Inés and Celine during WW2 and Liv during present day. I found myself enjoying the present day chapters the most because I was so intrigued by Grandma Edith’s character and the mystery of her past. I did not expect the ending at all. I may have shed a tear or two. Inés and Celine’s chapters focus on their champagne house’s efforts to fight back against the German army during the war, but also on the heartbreaking family drama that unfolds simultaneously.

All the characters were deeply flawed and made some questionable decisions, but I think that makes sense in a story about such a terrible, confusing time. Though they all made plenty of mistakes, their courage and resilience in the face of such terrifying circumstances was inspiring for sure. The way that both stories came together in the end was unexpected and bittersweet!

WW2, Wine, Family, and Love… what’s not to like? Definitely worth a read!

Oh what a lovely story about hope, love, sacrifice, betrayal - and champagne! Set in France in 1940, Ines, Celine, Michal, and Theo are resisting the invasion of the Nazis, doing small acts of sabotage. Love and betrayal are woven throughout this story but at its heart, it is a story of resistance and the sacrifices people make for the ones they love.

3.5 stars. This was a different perspective on the World War II-era, but my feelings towards the main characters weren’t always positive. I do enjoy this author’s writing style, even though some of the romance aspects tend to be unrealistic.

The final chapters were written better and made up a little for the rest of the book. I did find the storylines quite predictable

First book by this author and I loved it! Perfect mix of historical friction and present day, intertwined in beautiful (and tragic) stories of love.

The Winemaker's Wife is set at a winery in the Champagne region of France during World War II, and the storyline alternates with the present day. I loved this novel! It was the perfect blend of history and romance. It was fascinating to read about how the winemakers in the Champagne region defied the Nazis and were involved in the Resistance movement. I also appreciated how flawed all the characters were, yet how they worked together for survival and to care for those around them. Liz's modern day story was not quite as compelling for me, but it was sweet. This is a great book to get lost in.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the complimentary ebook.

This is the second book that I've read by Kristin Harmel and I honestly can't wait to read her other books. I really enjoyed the first book that I read from her and was excited to get my hands on this one. This book did not disappoint. There was love, resistance, betrayal, mystery, two timelines, and I got to learn about how champagne is made. While it focused more on love and betrayal, I did not find myself upset about it. The timelines were well written and I did not find myself confused by them. All of my questions were answered by the end of the book and left me satisfied with the ways things ended.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with the ARC. I look ok forward to the next book by this author.
